Winter sightings

February 15, 2015  •  2 Comments

It has been busy, both in the house and in the yard.  Temperatures continue to climb and fall, bringing in birds and other animals.  This first video has several critters captured by the Bubbler Cam since January 22, 2015.

February 14, 2015 Fox, Mink, Opossum and Barred Owl

This next video I took with my camera from inside.  (The audio is from the Bird Monitor, aka Sony baby monitor, which I have on to hear the birds.)

The Barred Owl flew in on Valentines' morning, with at least eight American Crows hot on its tail.  One crow nailed the owl's head as it landed right next to the deck in the small oak.  It flew to cover in the neighbor's yard behind us.  The crows let it be for a while.  It always amazes me to see such a large bird seemingly disappear into cover.  When the owl felt safe enough, it flew out into view, on a branch just 25 feet or so from the back door.

It's snowing now, our first major storm of the season has begun.  We'll see what tomorrow brings, but they're predicting 5-9" by Monday afternoon.

I LOVE the video of the barred owl! It's such a beautiful bird. The variety of wildlife that have discovered the small pond is amazing.
