Guess who's coming to breakfast? Yep, the first male Ruby-throated Hummingbird arrived on Wednesday morning, 4/23. He came in 3 times to feed early, and hasn't been seen since. So, that makes me think he's a 'scout' and has moved on further north. He looks well-fed!
There are still 3 White-throated Sparrows around and they should be on their way northward soon. Yesterday, this striking beauty enjoyed the Bubbler Basin.
Another was seen later in the day, sans tail. They often feed by foraging in the leaves and low branches. I wonder which roaming cat changed his anatomy. It puts him at a great disadvantage for flying north and the bird remains vulnerable in the meantime.
