I've been keeping an eye on the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher nest and its caretakers. Not really sure what's going on. I've seen them dive-bomb Brown-headed Cowbirds and a Red-tailed Hawk, chat with another female Blue-gray and forage a lot in the younger trees. This is a rough-leaved dogwood.
A lot of birds are finding caterpillars in the small American Elms. More on that soon.
Last Friday, the female came in and appeared to sit on eggs, at least sit in the nest, for over six minutes before popping away. I'll keep checking.
